Found your blog on the 7th Edition of the Manival.

I think this is a fantastic post that clarifies our (ever-changing) roles as parents. Our job is to protect AND empower our kids. One without the other is failing them.

I have two boys, and it feels like a constant battle (within myself) to go beyond, "stop that," and let them know why they need to stop that. Although some parents would disagree, kids should not just be taught how to obey - they're not dogs. They need to learn right from wrong, and why something is right or wrong.

They also need to be encouraged to be true to who they really are, and to fulfill their potential. My wife's parents believe kids need to be told what to do and when to do it. Which of course creates adults that can't make decisions (nor do they feel worthy to make decisions) for themselves.

Anyway, thank you for a great post. I'll be visiting more often now that I've found you...

Peace,
